Men?s Volleyball Releases 2012 Schedule

MUNCIE, Ind. - - Highlighted by a contest at Cal-State Northridge and a pair of Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association matches versus defending national champion Ohio State, the Ball State men's volleyball team released its 24-match 2012 schedule Tuesday afternoon.
"We have a good schedule of competition throughout the season," said Ball State head coach Joel Walton. "Our guys will be tested as we go through the course of the year. We have a good mix of opponents from the EIVA, MPSF and Conference Carolinas which will help prepare us for what will be a very competitive MIVA slate."
After hosting its annual alumni match Jan. 7, the Cardinals officially open their 2012 campaign with five matches versus Eastern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association opponents. First on the docket are matches at St. Francis (Jan. 13) and George Mason (Jan. 14). BSU will then open its 2012 home slate Jan. 18 with a visit from Sacred Heart, before GMU (Jan. 20) and SFU (Jan. 21) make their return trips to Worthen Arena.
The Cardinals will then play a pair of road matches versus Conference Carolina members Limestone (Jan. 27) and Pfeiffer (Jan. 28), before opening its 12-match league slate.
BSU's first three league matches will be at home versus Loyola (Feb. 2), Lewis (Feb. 5) and Quincy (Feb. 11). The Cardinals will then travel to defending national champion Ohio State (Feb. 17), before returning home to battle in-state rival IPFW (Feb. 18).
Ball State steps out of league play for a home match versus Conference Carolina member Mount Olive (Feb. 24), before visiting the west coast to take on Mountain Pacific Sports Federation opponent Cal-State Northridge (March 7). While out west, BSU will also play a pair of matches versus league rival Grand Canyon (March 9 & 10).
The Cardinals return home for their final three regular season home matches which include a MIVA showdown versus Ohio State (March 18) and non-conference contests against Lindenwood (March 21) and Park University (March 25).
BSU's final five regular season matches will be on the road, beginning with league battles at Loyola (April 2), Lewis (April 6), IPFW (April 7) and Quincy (April 13). BSU will play a non-conference match at Lindenwood (April 14) to end the regular season.
The 2012 MIVA Tournament gets underway April 21 with quarterfinal action at the site of the highest seed. The MIVA Tournament Semifinals (April 25) and the Championship Match (April 28) will also be played at the home site of the highest seed for each competition.
The University of Southern California will be hosting the 2012 NCAA Championships with semifinals on May 3 and the championship match May 5 at the Galen Center.
