WBB Suffers 70-62 Loss at EMU

YPSILANTI, Mich. - The Ball State University women's basketball team (5-10, 0-2 MAC) lost on the road Saturday in Mid-American Conference action at Eastern Michigan (11-5, 2-0 MAC) by a score of 70-62.
Freshman Katie Murphy had her first career start and led the Cardinals in scoring after chipping in 16 points on the day. The true freshman had eight in the first half. Junior guard Megan Craft added 12 points while teammate senior forward Emily Maggert had 11.
Late in the second half, back-to-back three pointers from freshman guard Brandy Woody and Craft pulled the Cardinals within reach of the Eagles 63-57 with 2:17 on the clock. EMU hit its free throws down the stretch along with capitalizing on a BSU turnover that gave the Eagles back a 10-point cushion with 1:26 remaining.
Maggert was the first to score in the opening minutes of the game to give the Cardinals the early 2-0 edge over the Eagles. After two ties EMU eventually took over the ball game building a 19-8 advantage with 9:19 remaining in the half. The Eagles led at intermission by nine, 32-23.
