WBB Loses MAC Opener at Toledo

Senior forward Emily Maggert led the Cardinals in scoring after chipping in 18 points on the night. Senior guard Ty'Ronda Benning finished with eight and freshman guard Brandy Woody had six. Despite the loss Ball State forced the Rockets to commit 19 turnovers.
Benning along with classmate Ebony Jackson hit back-to-back baskets in the opening minutes of the second half to bring the Cardinals within eight 29-21 but Toledo continued its strong play leading 45-27 with 9:10 left to play in the game.
Toledo had built a 14-3 edge over the Cardinals by the 11:13 mark of the first half. Ball State responded by putting together a 7-0 run with help from Woody and five straight points scored by senior forward Emily Maggert to make it a 14-12 ball game with 8:35 left in the half. Toledo would eventually build a 10-point advantage (26-16) over the Cardinals by intermission.
The Ball State University women's basketball team continues its two-game league roadswing when it travels to Eastern Michigan Saturday. Tipoff is set for 2 p.m. in the Convocation Center.
