Track & Field Earns 11 Top 10's At Gladstein Invite

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - - The Ball State indoor track & field team scored five more top 10 efforts on the second day of the Gladstein Invitational hosted by Indiana. BSU finished the non-scored two day meet with 11 top 10 efforts.
Junior Janae Taylor (Richmond, Ind./Richmond H.S.) was the Cardinals' top performer on the second day of the meet, placing seventh in the 200m dash (25.75) and ninth in the 60m dash (7.91).
In the 600m run, sophomore Emilee Zets (Berlin Center, Ohio/West Branch H.S.) turned in an eighth-place time of 1:40.93, while senior Thekla Lorenz (Hamburg, Germany) placed ninth in the long jump (18-1).
Ball State's final top 10 effort of the day came in the 4x400m relay when freshman Hannah Lange (Martinsville, Ind./Martinsville H.S.), senior Brandi Robinson (Chicago, Ill./Morgan Park H.S.), Lorenz and sophomore Judah Smith (Cincinnati, Ohio/Colerain H.S.) combined for a seventh-place time of 3:57.33.
The Ball State indoor track & field team returns to action next Saturday, when it travels to Marion, Ind., for the Indiana Wesleyan Invitational which starts at 11 a.m.

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - - The Ball State indoor track & field team turned in six top 10 performances in the opening day of the 2011 Gladstein Invitational hosted by Indiana. The meet is a non-scored event.
Ball State's top performance came in the pentathlon with freshman Rebecca Lomax (Indianapolis, Ind./Southport H.S.) placing fourth among the 14 competitors with a score of 3158. Lomax's top pentathlon effort came in the high jump, where she won the event by clearing 5-6.5.
Later in the meet, Lomax turned in a fourth-place height of 5-5.25 in the high jump competition.
Senior Thekla Lorenz (Hamburg, Germany) added a sixth-place effort in the pentathlon with 2845 total points. She placed second in the long jump (18-1.75), third in the shot put (37-1.75), third in the 800m dash (2:30.04) and fourth in the 60m hurdles (9.40).
In the main race of the 400m dash, sophomore Judah Smith (Cincinnati, Ohio/Colerain H.S.) placed sixth with a season-fast time of 57.87.
In the distance events, senior Ali Bishel (Chesterton, Ind./Chesterton H.S.) placed seventh in the 3,000m run (10:09.11), while sophomore MaryKate Mellen (Michigan City, Ind./Michigan City H.S.) placed eighth in the mile (5:12.73).
In preliminary action, junior Janae Taylor (Richmond, Ind./Richmond H.S.) turned in the 10th-fastest time in the 60m dash (7.92) to qualify for Saturday's finals.
Action in the 2011 Gladstein Invitational continues Saturday beginning at 11 a.m. with the 200m dash.
