
Men's S&D Suffers 146-87 Setback At Southern Illinois

CARBONDALE, Ill. - - The Ball State men's swimming & diving team suffered a 146-87 setback to Southern Illinois in a Mid-American Conference dual meet Saturday morning at the SIU Student Recreation Center.
SIU won all 13 events in their first-ever MAC dual meet against the Cardinals. Ball State tallied 10 second-place efforts in the contest.
Junior Andrew Hostetler (Vincennes, Ind./Jasper H.S.) netted a pair of runner-up finishes for the Cardinals, placing second in the 1000 free (10:33.28) and the 200 fly (2:01.07).
Sophomore Nicholas Stevens (Greencastle, Ind./Greencastle H.S.) also tallied two second-place efforts, in the 200 free (1:47.49) and 500 free (4:55.80).
Turning in individual runner-up efforts for BSU were; senior Josh Young (Huntington, Ind./Huntington North H.S.) in the 100 free (48.28), junior Casey Schroeder (Williamsport, Ind./Seeger Memorial H.S.) in the 50 free (21.76), junior Chris Krupa (Indianapolis, Ind./Pike H.S.) in the 200 IM (1:59.05) and sophomore Michael Weber (Lorain, Ohio/Elyria Catholic H.S.) in the 200 back (1:55.61).
Ball State's 200 medley relay (1:36.14) and 200 freestyle (1:26.64) relays also secured second-place finishes.
The Ball State men's swimming & diving team returns to action Sunday, when it travels to Indianapolis for the Butler Invitational. The noon swim will take place at Fishers High School and feature Ball State, Hillsdale, Valparaiso and Xavier.
