Women's S&D Preps For Pair Of Meets

MUNCIE, Ind. - - The Ball State women's swimming & diving team has two meets on tap this weekend, beginning Saturday at 1 p.m. when it ends the home portion of its 2010-11 schedule by hosting league rival Miami.
On Sunday, the Cardinals head to Indianapolis, Ind., for the Butler Invitational. The noon swim will take place at Fishers High School and feature Ball State, Butler, Hillsdale, Valparaiso and Xavier.
The Cardinals enter Saturday's league showdown with a 4-1 (1-0 MAC) dual record, including a league win at Eastern Michigan earlier this season. The RedHawks boast a 7-1 (2-0 MAC) dual meet record this season and are ranked No. 1 in the latest CollegeSwimming.com/CSCAA Mid-Major Division I Poll.
In addition to being a pivotal league showdown, Saturday's meet will serve as senior day for the Ball State women's swimming & diving team. Prior to the contest, BSU will honor its five-member senior class: Alanna Bader (Monroe, Wis./Monroe H.S.), Katie Bylsma (Westfield, Ind./Pinckney H.S.), Jessica Elzinga (Holland, Mich./West Ottawa), Maria Gramelspacher (Jasper, Ind./Jasper H.S.) and Catherine Ingram (Westfield, Ind./Westfield H.S.).
Entering the meet, three of BSU's five seniors rank in the top 20 in the Mid-American Conference in their respective events.
Bylsma ranks eighth in the MAC in the 100 freestyle (51.77) and 16th in the 200 freestyle (1:53.53).
Gramelspacher is seventh in the 200 butterfly (2:03.71) and 19th in the 100 butterfly (57.16).
Elzinga is 16th in three-meter diving (247.25) and 17th on the one-meter board (237.95).
