WBB Suffers 73-62 Road Loss at NIU
January 20, 2011 | Women's Basketball
Senior and MAC West Division Player of the Week recipient led the Cardinals in scoring with 22 points. Senior forward Emily Maggert led the team defensively after bringing down 13 boards just four shy of her career high. Junior forward Suzanne Grossnickle added eight points for the night.
The Cardinals improved shooting in the second half accompanied by some defensive stops allowed Ball State to chip away at the Huskies cushion. Grossnickle hit a layup to bring BSU within 10-points (50-40) at the 13 minute mark. In a last effort to win the game BSU managed to make it an 8-point contest (67-59) at two minute mark but BSU's first half deficit was too much for the Cardinals to overcome.
Northern Illinois came out of the gates strong in the first half eventually building a 21-point edge (33-12) over Ball State with 3:37 remaining. The Cardinals fell behind early in the opening minutes as BSU got into some foul trouble and struggled from the field only shooting 16 percent. NIU headed into intermission up 38-19 over Ball State.
The Ball State women's basketball team returns to Worthen Arena Saturday as it takes on MAC East Divisional leader Kent State with a 1 p.m. tipoff. To purchase tickets to the game, go to www.ballstatesports.com or call the ticket office at 1.888.BSU.TICKET.
