
Men's S&D Captures IUPUI Relay Title

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - - The Ball State men's swimming & diving team tallied wins in six of 10 events to take home first place at the IUPUI House Of Champions Relay Meet Monday afternoon at the IUPUI Natatorium.
In the four-team meet comprised of all relay events, the Cardinals posted 232 total points to earn first place. Xavier finished second at 208, followed by Eastern Illinois (174) and host IUPUI (72).
Junior Chris Krupa (Indianapolis, Ind./Pike H.S.) was one of the Cardinals' top performers, appearing on five winning relays. Sophomore Michael Weber (Lorain, Ohio/Elyria Catholic H.S.) was a member of four first-place relays.
Ball State opened the meet with a victory in the 3x100 butterfly relay as junior Tony DeBrota (Indianapolis, Ind./Pike H.S.), freshman Drew Tharp (Evansville, Ind./Reitz Memorial H.S.) and Krupa combined for a time of 2:39.09.
Two events later, Krupa picked up his second relay win of the day, as he combined with junior Gavin McNeeley (North Manchester, Ind./Manchester H.S.) and sophomore David Wood (Swayzee, Ind./Oak Hill H.S.) for a first-place time of 3:00.78 in the 3x100 breaststroke relay.
BSU picked up its third event win of the day in the 500 freestyle relay, as junior Casey Schroeder (Williamsport, Ind./Seeger Memorial H.S.), Weber, senior Josh Young (Huntington, Ind./Huntington North H.S.) and freshman Michael Oaks (Franklin, Ind./Franklin Community H.S.) posted a time of 4:16.74.
In the next event, the 400 medley relay, Krupa picked up his third win of the afternoon, while Weber, McNeeley and Schroeder all added their second in a 3:33.88 effort.
In the 400 medley relay, Krupa added his fourth relay win, while McNeeley and Weber posted their third and DeBrota his second, in a 3:39.04 effort.
Ball State ended the meet with a win in the 400 freestyle relay, led once again by Krupa and Weber. Schroeder was part of this third relay win and Young added his second as BSU completed the event in 3:14.88.
The Ball State men's swimming & diving team returns to action Saturday, when it travels to Southern Illinois for a 10 a.m. (CT) swim versus the Salukis.
