Scouting Ball State: Ball State enters tonight's contest with a 6-10 overall record and 1-2 Mid-American Conference mark after defeating Western Michigan 67-60 Tuesday night in Worthen Arena. The win marked the first MAC victory of the season for the Cardinals. Senior guard Ty'Ronda Benning scored a career high 33 points. Benning's career night started early as she scored the first seven points in the opening minutes of the game, allowing the Cardinals to build a 7-3 advantage over the Broncos with 17:34 on the clock. Maggert's jumper at the 16:01 mark moved her to fourth all-time in scoring on the Ball State women's basketball list, passing former Cardinal Emma Jones with 1,513 career points.
Scouting Central Michigan: Currently the Chippewas are the MAC West Divisional leaders with an overall record of 11-4 and an unblemished MAC stand at 3-0. So far CMU has knocked off Northen Illinois, Eastern Michigan and Western Michigan in league action. Shonda Long became Central Michigan's all-time career leader in made three-point field goals and finished with a game-high 22 points, including six big free throws down the stretch, to help the Chippewas defeat Eastern Michigan, 76-67, at the Convocation Center on Wednesday.
The Coaches: Ball State head coach Kelly Packard is in her third season at Ball State . . . Packard's overall record at Ball State is 46-36 (.561), while her Mid-American Conference mark is 22-13 . . . Sue Guevara is in her fourth season at Central Michigan. . . Guevara's overall record at CMU is 47-59 and owns a MAC record of 22-28.
The Series: This is the 41st meeting between Ball State and Central Michigan . . . The Chippewas and the Cardinals are tied 30-30 all-time . . . Ball State defeated Central Michigan in its last meeting in 2010 at home by a score of 77-74.
