Softball Opens Fall Season Hosting Taylor Saturday

Muncie, Ind. - The Ball State softball team will open its fall season Saturday morning as the Cardinals host Taylor at 10 a.m. at the BSU Softball Complex.
Head coach Craig Nicholson leads the Cardinals into his fifth season, having amassed a record of 130-106 at Ball State, as well 853-196 (.813) overall. The Cardinals are led by the return of four All-Mid-American Conference players in senior outfielder Lisa Rozanski (Tampa, Fla./Daytona Beach CC), senior shortstop Alicia Barkley (Oklahoma City, Okla./Putnam City), junior catcher Amanda Montalto (Las Vegas, Nev./Palo Verde) and senior first baseman Kate Wilczynski (Tucson, Ariz./Canyon Del Oro).
"It will be a great opportunity for the kids to get out and play somebody other than themselves," Nicholson said. "The team is excited to see somebody else's uniforms for a change."
Last season, the Cardinals amassed an overall record of 43-16 and 17-6 mark in Mid-American Conference play. Ball State also claimed the MAC regular season co-championship, the MAC Tournament title and an appearance in the NCAA Championships. Ball State fell to No. 15 Tennessee, 5-0, and to Louisville, 5-1, in the NCAA regional.
Taylor, a member of the Mid-Central College Conference is under the direction of interim head coach Brad Bowser. The Trojans finished the 2010 season with a 13-27 record, including a 6-10 mark in MCC play.
