Fan Jam Officially Kicks off Ball State Football for Fans
August 21, 2010 | Football
Ball State's football season officially kicked off for the fans with festivities at Scheumann Stadium. The Cardinals hosted its annual FanJam celebration and Media Day in preparation for the Thurs., Sept. 2, opener.
The Cardinals are in Fall Camp with classes at Ball State starting Aug. 23. Second-year head coach Stan Parrish met with the media and commented on a number of topics with the football program.
"We have had a very good Fall Camp to this point," Parrish says. "The team is working hard toward our goal of defeating Southeast Missouri State in the season opener."
"Kelly Page has gotten all the reps with the No. 1 offense so far, and he has improved on his decision making. He is smarter and willing to learn. He just needs to relax and make plays. Keith Wenning doesn't look like a high school guy and is one of the best freshmen we have had in my tenure here. We are doing some different things with Aaron Mershman to be sure he gets in the game. He is too good an athlete not to play and is willing to do whatever it takes to help this team win. Our offensive line played well this spring and again in Fall Camp. We are banking on them getting better every week"
"Defensively, Sean Baker is our leader. He is playing at a different speed right now. He loves the game of football and is emerging as on of the best safeties we have ever had at Ball State."
Ball State's 2010 Fan Jam gave the fans the opportunity to meet the football team plus the school's field hockey, women's soccer and women's volleyball squads. Team posters, schedules and autographs from the student-athletes were available. In addition, Ball State had interactive sports stations set up for all sports.
The first 200 kids in attendance received free back-to-school packs and free food and giveaways throughout the day.
The Fan Jam was broadcast live by WLBC FM 104.1 and participating sponsors for the event included AT&T, Discount Tire, Great Deals, Outback Steakhouse, Pepsi, Qdoba Mexican Grill, Ruby Tuesday, Small Engine Warehouse and Sport Clips.
