Softball's Milian And Ware Named To All-Great Lakes Region Team
May 22, 2010 | Softball
Milian is a senior two-time All-Mid-American Conference first team selection and has led Ball State on the mound for four years. Her nearly flawless performance in the MAC Tournament last weekend earned her the distinction of MAC Tournament Most Valuable Player. She pitched all 28 innings for the Cardinals and maintained a 4-0 record on the mound, including two shutouts and one no-hitter, and allowed just four hits and two runs, while striking out 40 batters, for a tournament-leading 0.25 earned-run average.
The senior is the winningest pitcher in Ball State history and has tallied 32 victories this season. She is also the school's career and single season leader in strikeouts with 299 this season. The career mark ties her for the top-spot in the conference with Kent State's Kylie Reynolds. In addition, Milian has been named the MAC West Division Player of the Week a conference-high seven times in 2010.
Ware is a senior transfer from Arizona State and leads the Ball State offense with a team and conference-high .410 batting average and .725 slugging percentage. The MAC Player of the Year and All-MAC First Team selection also leads the team in runs (64), hits (82), triples (16), extra base hits (37), total bases (145) and multi-hit games (22). Nationally, Ware leads the nation in triples and triples per game, is ranked No. 11 in runs per game and No. 33 in slugging percentage. Setting four single season school records this year - triples, hits, runs and total bases - Ware is also a key player on defense and leads the team with five double plays at third base. She was recognized three times this season by the MAC for her outstanding performance and received the MAC West Division Player of the Week three times.
The Great Lakes Region First Team includes six selections from No. 2 University of Michigan, four players from No. 24 Notre Dame and one each from Louisville and Northwestern. In addition to Milian and Ware, the region's second team is comprised of players from DePaul, Iona, Louisville, Niagara, Northwestern, Notre Dame and St. John's.
