Ball State's football team concluded Spring Practice and will open the 2010 season Thursday, Sept. 2, with a home game vs. Southeast Missouri State at Scheumann Stadium.
The season opener will be Community Day and tickets can be purchased at www.ballstatesports.com or by calling 1.888.BSU.TICKET. Ball State's other home games include Sept. 11, vs. Liberty (Team Day), Oct. 9 vs. Western Michigan (Homecoming), Oct. 16 vs. Eastern Michigan (Family Weekend), Nov. 6 vs. Akron (Youth Day) and Nov. 20 vs. Northern Illinois (Bronze Stalk Game/Senior Day).
"We are bigger, stronger and faster than we were a year ago," Ball State head coach Stan Parrish says. "We have the necessary ingredients to be a good ball club. The Mid-American Conference is a very balanced league from a talent perspective, so we have to be prepared mentally. We need that bulldog mentality that you know you can win games. The spring was very productive and the offseason between now and August camp will be very important for a lot of our players."
The Cardinals return 42 lettermen, including 17 starters from the 2009 season.
MiQuale Lewis, who was granted a fifth year of eligibility by the Mid-American Conference and NCAA for an injury during the 2007 season, leads the list of returnees. Lewis set the Ball State single game rushing record with 301 yards at Eastern Michigan a year ago. He set the school's single season rushing record with 1,736 yards in 2008. Lewis was a 2009 All-MAC Second Team choice after earning first-team honors in 2008.
