Men's Tennis Upsets No. 47 UC Irvine

MUNCIE, Ind. - The Ball State University men's tennis team pulled a 5-2 upset over No. 47 UC Irvine at the Boise State Spring Break Classic at the Julia Davis Park Tennis Courts Saturday evening. Ball State improves to 12-5 on the season.
Sophomore Derek Carpenter alongside teammate Alex Brym was the lone Ball State doubles tandem that won after defeating Shimpei Suzuki and Stephen Stege at No. 3 doubles by a score of 9-8.
Ball State would make a comeback after falling behind 1-0 and dominated singles play winning five of the six matches. Junior Eduardo Pavia won at No. 1 singles in straight sets 6-1, 6-2 over Zac Tsai. Sophomores Cliff Morrison and Andres Monroy along with Brym all took three set victories at the No. 2, No. 3 and No. 4 spots respectively. Freshman Dalton Albertin would complete the singles success after a 7-5, 6-4 defeat over Jon Kazarian at the No. 5 spot.
The Ball State University men's tennis team will conclude play Sunday at the Boise State Spring Break Classic.
