
Gymnastics Posts a Pair of Wins in Meet

Ball State's gymnastics team tallied wins over Illinois State and Texas Woman's in a three-way meet at Worthen Arena Sunday afternoon.
The Cardinals managed a 192.075, while Illinois State was second with a 191.400 and TWU was third with a 191.200.
After three events, Illinois State moved to first with a 143.500, Ball State was second with a 143.375 and Texas Woman's was third with a 143.325.
But, Ball State's 48.600 score on the floor earned the Cardinals the victory. With the wins, Ball State improved to 5-6 overall. The 192.075 team score was Ball State's best in a home meet this season and improve the Cardinals to 3-2 in competition at Worthen Arena.
Entering the final event, Ball State moved to the floor, TWU was on the bars and Illinois State competed on the vault.
Brittney Emmons won the floor competition with a 9.825, while Emily Wehrle tied for third with a career high 9.750. Kayla Kmiecik tied for fifth with a 9.700 and Nicole Allen tied her career high with a 9.675 on the floor.
The Cardinals led off the meet on the vault and tallied a season best 48.525 to take an early lead in the three-team event.
Emmons tied for first on the vault with a 9.750, while Ashley Jacob managed a season high 9.725 to place fourth and Tiffany Brodbeck tied her career best with a 9.700 to tie for fifth.
Illinois State started the meet on the vault and tallied a team score of 46.825, while Texas Woman's managed a 46.375 on the beam.
Ball State moved to the bars and held on to a slim lead after two events. The Cardinals managed a 47.475 as a team on the bars to hold on to the lead. Illinois State completed the beam and Texas Woman's moved to the floor. Ball State's score after two events was 96.00, Illinois State was 95.150 and TWU had a 94.850.
On the bars, the Cardinals were led by Bibiana Rodriguez, who managed a 9.750 and tied for second. Katelyn Busacker and Kmiecik each tallied 9.600's on the bars and tied for seventh.
The Cardinals then took on the beam, while TWU moved to the vault and Illinois State competed on the floor.
Wehrle was Ball State's top performer on the beam with a 9.625 to place fourth, while Kmiecik finished eighth with a 9.550.
Emmons ended the day with a third-place finish in the all-around after posting a 38.500 mark.
Ball State will return to the friendly confines of Worthen Arena Sunday for a dual meet with Mid-American Conference foe Kent State at 1 p.m. Sunday's meet will be Ball State Gymnastics Alumni Day at Worthen Arena.
