Football Team Honors Award Winners at Banquet

Sean Baker (Canfield, Ohio/Canfield H.S.), a junior defensive back for the Ball State University football team, was selected to receive Ball State's John Magnabosco Award as the team's Most Valuable Player.
The Magnabosco Award is named in honor of Ball State's head football coach from 1935-52, and was presented at the team's annual Honors Banquet Sunday at Ball State's Worthen Arena. Magnabosco is the winningest football coach in Ball State history with 68 victories.
Baker, who is tied for first in the MAC and tied for sixth in the country with 0.5 interceptions per game, has set the Ball State career record with 16 interceptions as a junior. He started all 12 games for the Cardinals and set the school's interceptions record with two picks at Buffalo Nov. 12. Baker blocked the first field goal of his career vs. Liberty this season, plus added two interceptions vs. the Flames. He has posted four multiple interception games in his career. Baker finished the 2010 season second on the team in tackles with 88.
Keith Wenning (Coldwater, Ohio/Coldwater H.S.) was selected as the recipient of the John Hodge Award as Ball State's Most Valuable Freshmen.
The Hodge Award is given in memory of the 1974 Cardinal Varsity Club Chairman who died in 1977. The CVC is an organization of benefactors to Ball State's intercollegiate athletics program.
Wenning, a true freshman quarterback, started the final 10 games of the season. He completed 128-of-235 passes for 1,373 yards with 14 touchdowns and 14 interceptions.
Ian McGarvey (Greenwood, Ind./Center Grove H.S.), a senior placekicker, won the Bill Reynolds Special Teams Award, which is named in memory of Reynolds, who spent 31 years as a volunteer in the Ball State athletics department with an emphasis on the football program prior to his death in the summer of 2000. McGarvey was a co-recipient of the honor a year ago.
McGarvey, who set the Ball State career record with 287 points, tied his career high with three made field goals vs. Akron. It marked the seventh time in his career he made three field goals in one game, including also vs. Liberty in 2010. McGarvey connected on a career best 10th straight field goal vs. Liberty this season, and made his last nine field goals attempts to end his Ball State career. He ranks second in the MAC and tied for 35th in the nation with 1.27 field goals made per game and was fifth in the conference in scoring with 6.45 points per contest.
Frank Edmonds (Cleveland, Ohio/St. Edward's H.S.), a senior defensive back, received the Football Team's Academic Award. He owns a 3.22 grade-point average on Ball State's 4.0 scale as a finance major.
Ball State's football team presented three players with the Bill Meitzler Scout Team Player of the Year Award, which is given in honor of the former Cardinal Varsity Club Board member and longtime fan and supporter of Ball State football.
Jamill Smith (Muncie, Ind./South H.S.) received the award for offense, while Joseph Fazio (Cedarsburg, Wis./Cedarsburg H.S.) and Zac Jordan (Cincinnati, Ohio/Elder H.S.) shared the award for the defense.
Daniel Ifft (Dover, Ohio/Dover H.S.) and Ray Winkler (South Bend, Ind./St. Joseph's H.S.) were co recipients of the Mark Hays Inspiration Award, which is given to the person who demonstrates the greatest ability to motivate and inspire his teammates. The award is given in the memory of the late son of Kermit and Mary Ellen Hays, who are longtime fans and supporters of the Ball State athletics program.
In addition, the football program honored Koreen Burch (Broxton, Ga./Coffee H.S.), Madaris Grant (Cincinnati, Ohio/Mount Healthy H.S.), Michael Hunt (South Bend, Ind./Riley H.S.), Cody Muhlenkamp (Coldwater, Ohio/Coldwater H.S.), Rene Perry (Lake City, Fla./Columbia H.S.), Charlie Todd (Bear, Del./Howard H.S.), Justin Woodard (LaGrange, Ga./Troup County H.S.) and Kaylon Woods (Jacksonville, Fla./First Coast H.S.) as recipients of the Ray Louthen Senior Award.
Baker, MiQuale Lewis (Fort Wayne, Ind./Snider), Davyd Jones (Muncie, Ind./Central H.S.) and Michael Switzer (Indianapolis, Ind./Lawrence North H.S.) were honored for serving as team captains for the 2010 season.
Travis Arnold (Fort Wayne, Ind./Snider), Robert Eddins (Detroit, Mich./Crockett H.S.) and Switzer were recognized as winners of the Strength and Conditioning Cardinal Pride Award.
