Softball Announces 2011 Spring Schedule

MUNCIE, Ind. - The Ball State softball team revealed its 2011 spring schedule, set to begin Feb. 19, in Clarksville, Tenn. Fifth-year head softball coach Craig Nicholson announced the Cardinals will play in six tournaments in Tennessee, Georgia, Florida, Virginia and Ohio.
Ball State opens the season against the Belmont Bruins on February 19 at 9 a.m. as part of the two-day Austin Peay Tournament. From Feb. 25-27, the Cardinals continue tournament play in Woodstock, Ga., as Ball State will once again take part in the Phyliss Rafter Memorial Tournament, hosted by Kennesaw State, for the second-consecutive season.
Ball State heads to Florida for the Under Armour Invitational (March 4-6), and will have mid-week contests versus the Dutch National Team, North Carolina and Central Florida, before the Under Armour Showcase, held March 11-13 in Clearwater, Fla.
The Cardinals continue tournament play in Troutville, Va. from March 18-20 as Ball State will play in the Radford Tournament for the first time. A midweek doubleheader versus the Dayton Flyers marks the Cardinals' home opener, scheduled for March 24 at 3 p.m.
Two days later, Ball State begins the Miami Tournament versus Toledo in Oxford, Ohio, in a contest scheduled for 11 a.m. and the Cardinals begin Mid-American Conference play against the Ohio Bobcats on April 1 at 1 p.m.
Ball State hosts its MAC home opener April 22 at 1 p.m., where the Cardinals will face the Central Michigan Chippewas in a doubleheader.
Ball State also has midweek contests versus Wright State (April 12) and Indiana (April 20). The defending champion Cardinals look to advance to the 2011 MAC Softball Championship, held May 11-14 at Firestone Stadium in Akron, Ohio for the third-consecutive season.
