Maria Gramelspacher Named MAC Swimmer Of The Week

MUNCIE, Ind. - - Thanks to senior butterfly specialist Maria Gramelspacher (Jasper, Ind./Jasper H.S.), the Ball State women's swimming & diving team has captured its second straight Mid-American Conference Swimmer of the Week award, as announced this afternoon by the league office.
This is the first career MAC Swimmer of the Week award for Gramelspacher. Last week, senior freestyle specialist Katie Bylsma picked up her second career award and BSU's first of the 2010-11 season.
Gramelspacher earns MAC Swimmer of the Week honors after helping guiding the Cardinals to a 297.5 point victory at the five-team Doug Coers Invitational hosted at the Lewellen Aquatic Center. BSU posted 801 points in the event, followed by second-place Marshall at 503.5.
In the two-day event, Gramelspacher took home first-place honors in four events, while posting top-four marks in six. Individually, Gramelspacher placed first in the 200 butterfly (2:05.81), second in the 200 freestyle (1:57.00) and fourth in 500 Freestyle (5:12.40).
On the relay circuit, Gramelspacher was a member of the first-place 200 medley relay (1:49.08), 800 freestyle relay (7:53.43) and 400 freestyle relay (3:33.31).
The Ball State women's swimming & diving team returns to action next weekend, when it travels to Ypsilanti, Mich., for the two-day Eastern Michigan Invitational which begins at 3:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 3.
