
Women's S&D Dominates IUPUI House Of Champions

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - - The Ball State women's swimming & diving team picked up its sixth consecutive IUPUI House Of Champions title with a dominating 899-point performance, out-distancing second place by over 330 points, in the two-day, seven team event hosted at the IUPUI Natatorium.
Xavier finished a distant second with 568.5 points, followed by the host Jaguars (519), Centre College (337), Indianapolis (305), Butler (283) and Western Illinois (238.5).
Ball State opened the meet with a .16 second victory in the 200 freestyle relay, as Mia Miller, Jennifer Miles, Betsy Bowen and Katie Bylsma combined for a time of 1:38.10.
Two events later, Haley Richter picked up BSU's first of eight individual event wins with a clocking of 2:09.68 in the 200 individual medley. Richter would also pick up the win in the 100 backstroke (58.68).
BSU's third event victory of the meet came to open the second day, when Miles, Bridgette Ruehl, Richter and Bylsma posted a time of 3:57.85 in the 400 medley relay to capture first by over five seconds.
Miles, Ruehl, Maria Gramelspacher and Miller followed with a first-place showing in the 200 medley relay, clocking in at 1:49:59.
In the 400 IM, Emily Wisolek and Mackenzie Imbro would tally the Cardinals first of six 1-2 event finishes of the meet, turning in times of 4:42.00 and 4:46.27, respectively.
Bylsma followed with a win in the 200 free (1:56.84), while Jillian Bischoff took second (1:57.02). Bylsma would also win the 100 free (53.72), while Bischoff finishing second again (54.08), later in the day.
Also picking up a pair of event wins for the Cardinals was Ruehl in the 100 breaststroke (1:06.92) and the 200 breaststroke (2:25.13). Stacey Wierman placed second in both events with times of 1:08.36 and 2:28..50, respectively.
Rounding out BSU's individual winners was Gramelspacher with a time of 2:08.00 in the 200 fly.
The Cardinals also captured wins in the 800 free relay (Gramelspacher, Wisolek, Bischoff and Bylsma) at 7:56.27 and the 400 free relay (Richter, Nicole Saulters, Bischoff and Bylsma) at 3:36.56.
The Ball State women's swimming & diving team returns to action next Friday, when it opens competition in the 2010 Doug Coers Invitational. The two-day event starts at 6:30 p.m. Friday, and begins again at 9 a.m. Saturday.
