Brittany Carter (Kirkwood, Mo./Incarnate Word Academy), Shelbie Justice (Shelbyville, Ind./Rushville Consolidated H.S.), Jonessa Moore (Cincinnati, Ohio/Mt. Healthy H.S.) and Neschelle Williams (Cincinnati, Ohio/Princeton Senior H.S.) have each signed national letters of intent to attend Ball State University and compete for the women's basketball program, according to third-year head coach Kelly Packard.
"I am pleased to announce the addition of four talented young women to our Ball State women's basketball program," said Packard. "It is a compliment to our program to attract such outstanding individuals."
Carter, a 5-11 guard, is a senior at Incarnate Word Academy. She joins the program with former teammate Jazmin Hitchens, who is a freshman on Ball State's roster. Carter has helped Incarnate Word Academy post an overall record of 85-8 heading into her senior year along with a Missouri Class 5A State Championship last season. As a junior, she averaged 8.8 points per game and 2.8 rebounds while receiving all-conference, all-state and all-conference honors.
"Brittany Carter has a championship mentality," said Packard. "Her high school experience has included elite success, and her individual skill reflects this involvement. Her ability to manage the ball against pressure compliments her catch and shoot game."
Justice, a 5-10, guard, averaged 15.3 points, 5.4 rebounds and 3.8 assists while shooting 54 percent from the field as a junior. Justice led her team to a 23-5 overall record this past season on its way to a Hoosier Heritage Conference Championship and trip to Class 3A State Championship Game. Justice also earned HHC First Team All-Conference accolades and a spot on Indiana Junior All-Star Team.
" Shelbie Justice is a pure competitor," said Packard. "Her mentality of success has been fostered by being a part of a highly accomplished high school program. Shelbie is versatile, offering great size at the guard position, along with pure shooting ability."
Moore, a 6-2 forward, is a senior at Mt. Healthy High School. Moore totaled 190 points, 76 rebounds and 23 blocks, while helping her team to a 14-7 stint as a junior. She helped her team win the Fort Ancient Valley Conference Championship her sophomore and junior seasons. Moore also earned First Team all-league this past year, while also being named defensive player of the year two years in a row.
"Jonessa Moore has tremendous size with excellent agility," said Packard. "Her ability to run the floor seemingly effortlessly is a fit for our up tempo offensive system. Her rebounding presence and productivity compliment her agility."
Williams, a 6-0 forward, has accumulated over 350 points and 450 rebounds during her high school career. Before transferring to her current high school, Williams garnered Miami Valley Conference honors as a freshman and sophomore. She also earned All-Southwest Ohio District Honorable Mention and MVP honors as a sophomore as well.
"Neschelle Williams plays a physical strength game in the paint," said Packard. "She understands ownership of the block, and the importance of rebounding the ball consistently as part of her paint game."
