MUNCIE, Ind. - - The Ball State women's swimming & diving team will look for its second invitational win of the season this weekend, when it travels to Indianapolis for the 2010 IUPUI House of Champions meet hosted at the IUPUI Natatorium.
The two-day event begins Friday at 6 p.m. and continues Saturday at 10 a.m. Competing with the Cardinals and host Jaguars will be Butler, Center College, Indianapolis, Western Illinois and Xavier.
The Ball State women's squad has competed in the IUPUI House of Champions meet for the last five seasons, taking home the title all five time. Last season, the Cardinals posted 26 top three finishes, including wins in four of the 20 events.
BSU returns two event winners from last season's meet in senior Katie Bylsma (Westfield, Ind./Pickney H.S.) and sophomore Mackenzie Imbro (Noblesville, Ind./Noblesville H.S.). Bylsma took home top billing in the 200 freestyle at last season's meet, while Imbro returns as the champion in the 100 breaststroke.
In order to defend her title in the 100 breaststroke, Imbro will have to battle current BSU freshman Bridgette Ruehl (Lowell, Ind./Lowell H.S.) who enters the week ranked second in the league in both the 100 and 200 breaststroke events. In BSU's last meet at Eastern Michigan (Oct. 30), Ruehl posted the second-best individual 100 breaststroke in school history at 1:04.68, and followed with the third-fastest individual time in the 200 breaststroke at 2:19.21.
Senior Maria Gramelspacher (Jasper, Ind./Jasper H.S.) enters the meet ranked first in the MAC in the 200 butterfly (2:04.24) and fifth in the 100 butterfly (57.16). As a team, Ball State's swimmers & divers enter the weekend with 18 Top 10 marks on the Mid-American Conference rankings.
