
Men's S&D Tops Evansville 181-115

MUNCIE, Ind. - - The Ball State men's swimming & diving team opened its 2010-11 season with a 181-115 Mid-American Conference victory over Evansville Friday evening at the Lewellen Aquatic Center.
The Cardinals scored victories in 10 of the 16 events, with four different BSU swimmers collecting a pair of individual event victories and a relay victory.
The meet started with the 200 medley relay of sophomore Michael Weber (Lorain, Ohio/Elyria Catholic H.S.), junior Gavin McNeeley (North Manchester, Ind./Manchester H.S.), junior Chris Krupa (Indianapolis, Ind./Pike H.S.) and junior Casey Schroeder (Williamsport, Ind./Seeger Memorial H.S.) combining for a first-place time of 1:36.10.
Weber went on to add individual victories in the 100 backstroke (55.34) and 200 individual medley (2:00.21).
McNeeley swept the individual breaststroke events, turning in a time of 59.95 in the 100 and 2:13.76 in the 200.
Krupa continued his dominance in the butterfly, posing clockings of 51.01 in the 100 and 1:57.83 in the 200.
Schoreder went on to sweep the sprint freestyle events, touching the wall in 21.58 in the 50 and 48.30 in the 100.
Also posting an individual win for the Cardinals was senior Mark Golden, whose time of 10:16.26 in the 1,000 freestyle edged out Evansville's Carder Labrake by .16 of a second in the meets' longest event.
The Ball State men's swimming & diving team will have little time to rest, as they host the Ball State Relay Invitational Saturday morning at 9 a.m. The event will be held at the Lewellen Aquatic Center and admission is FREE.
