
Football Loses 31-24 At Toledo

TOLEDO, Ohio - The Ball State University football team (2-6, 1-3 MAC) fell 31-24 to Mid-American Conference West Divisional co- leader Toledo (5-3, 4-0 MAC) Saturday night at the Glass Bowl.
"Toledo is a good football team," Ball State head coach Stan Parrish says. "We threw a lot at them early and they adjusted well. We got done what we wanted to early and were ready to play. We just did not make enough plays. Toledo is a good, healthy football team. Give them the credit for the win."
Ball State scored on its opening drive after kicker Ian McGarvey nailed a 35-yard field goal to give the Cardinals rhe early 3-0 edge over Toledo with 11:13 on the clock in the first quarter. The Cardinals went up 10-0 after quarterback Keith Wenning connected on a 42-yard touchdown pass to wide receiver Jack Tomlinson with 4:26 left in the quarter for his first career touchdown and Wenning's seventh.
On Toledo's next possession Jason Pinkston recorded his third interception of the season and sixth of his career which set up a 4-yard touchdown pass from Wenning to Tomlinson increasing Ball State's lead to 17-0 at the 1:43 mark in the first quarter.
Ball State's defense held the Rockets scoreless the first quarter. The defense was led by linebacker Travis Freeman with three tackles while also recording his first interception of the season and second of his career.
At the start of the second quarter, Toledo scored its first touchdown on a 46-yard TD pass from Austin Dantin to Eric Page making the score 17-7. The Rockets scored a touchdown and field goal in the second quarter to tie the game at the half, 17-17.
Toledo opened the second half with a 35-yard touchdown run from Adonis Thomas taking its first lead of the ball game 24-17. The Rockets controlled the remainder of the contest after Dantin's 4-yard touchdown run increasing their cushion to 31-17 with 7:56 remaining in the game.
The Cardinals managed to march down the field and score with 12 seconds left after Wenning completed a 12-yard touchdown pass to wide receiver Torieal Gibson making it a 31-24 ball game. Ball State recovered the onside kick in its last efforts to tie the ball game but Wenning threw an interception as time expired.
MiQuale Lewis had a season-high 83 rushing yards off of 18 carries making his career total rushing yards 3,607.
