Women?s Swimming & Diving Hits Road For Pair Of Meets

MUNCIE, Ind. - - The Ball State women's swimming & diving team returns to the road this weekend for a pair of meets starting Saturday with a 1 p.m. Mid-American Conference showdown at Eastern Michigan.
On Sunday, the Cardinals travel to North Central High School in Indianapolis for a five-team meet which will be hosted by Butler, begins at noon and also features Eastern Illinois, Youngstown State and Valparaiso.
Ball State enters Saturday's meet at Eastern Michigan with a 6-4 (1-3 MAC) dual record after posting a thrilling 154-146 come-from-behind victory at Illinois State last Saturday. The Eagles enter the week with a 3-4 (2-2 MAC) record after falling to Oakland 157-143 in its last outing (Jan. 9). EMU will host Wayne State Friday night, before facing Ball State Saturday.
Previewing Sunday's meet, the Cardinals have already faced three of its four opponents, scoring wins over each of them. At the IUPUI House of Champions (Nov. 14), BSU won the seven-team meet with 843 total points, while Butler placed seventh (208). Ball State scored a 172-102 dual meet victory over Eastern Illinois (Dec. 4) and topped Valparaiso in the three-team Ball State Relay Invitational (Jan. 9).
After claiming three first-place swims (100 breaststroke, 200 breaststroke and 200 IM) in the win at Illinois State, BSU senior Emily Karwoski (Zionsville, Ind./North Central H.S.) was named the Mid-American Conference Women's Swimmer of the Week.
Karwoski is the fourth different Ball State women's swimmer to earn the league's top weekly honors in the last five voting periods, joining Nov. 24 winner sophomore Elizabeth Spilman (Bristol, Ind./Northridge H.S.), Dec. 15 honoree junior Katie Bylsma (Westfield, Ind./Pinckney H.S.) and Jan. 12 selection senior Sarah Kehe (Westville, Ind./Chesterton H.S.).
