Men's Tennis Hosts 31st Annual Ball State Invitational

MUNCIE, Ind. - The Ball State University men's tennis team is set to host the Ball State Invitational, which will begin Friday and will end Sunday. Competition will take place at the Cardinal Creek Tennis Center and Lucina Courts.
This marks the 31st year the Cardinals have hosted the invitational. The tournament consists of a 15-team field, which includes Ball State, DePaul Universtiy, University of Wisconsin - Green Bay, Illinois State University, Northern Illinois University, Dayton, Xavier, Detroit Mercy, Marquette University, Valparaiso University, IPFW, IUPUI, Cleveland State University, Eastern Illinois University, Butler University and the University of Louisville.
The tournament consists of four flights (A, B, C and D) of singles with draws of 32 apiece. There will also be four flights of doubles with draws of 16 apiece. There will also be consolation play for first round losers in both singles and doubles.
BSU tennis welcomes back former player and alumnus Steve Rodecap, who is the head coach at Marquette. Rodecap played at Ball State from 1992-96 while helping the Cardinals to a trio of Mid-American Conference Championship titles (1992-93, 1993-94, 1994-95). The Anderson, Ind., native is in his seventh year at the helm of the Golden Eagles. The Cardinals also welcome back former player and alumnus Jim Daughtery. Daugherty played varsity tennis at Ball State University from 1974-1977, where he played as high as number one singles and number one doubles. Daugherty captained the team during both his junior and senior season with the Cardinals. He is in his 24th season at Valparaiso.
Bill Richards begins his 38th year as head coach of the Cardinals. Ball State returns Mid-American Conference honorees Cliff Morrison and Eduardo Pavia.
