
Field Hockey Drops Conference Opener Against RedHawks

While holding Ball State to two shots in the first period, Miami's Kate Snyder produced a hat trick, scoring the first three goals with assistance from Mary Hull and Katie Brightwell who tallied four assists on the day. Maggie Marcum added another goal as Miami led 4-0 at the 33:33 mark.
Sophomore midfielder Devanny Kuhn (Louisville, Ky./Sacred Heart Academy) put the Cardinals on the board with her first goal of the season off a penalty corner to conclude the first period as Ball State trailed two shots to 13.
However Miami picked up where the team left off scoring two more goals off penalty corners in the first 16 minutes. The RedHawks led 14-6 in penalty corner attempts. They sealed the deal with a seventh goal in the 61st minute from Mary Hull. Miami controlled the shots logging 22 to Ball State's six throughout the game, but of the Cardinal's six shots, five were on goal.
Senior goalkeeper Tiffany Shifflett (Yorktown, Va./Hampton Roads Academy) tied her season-high nine saves during her fifth complete game. She has stopped 35 shots this season.
The Cardinals travel to Indiana for Sunday matchup at 1 p.m. in the Hoosier's home opener.
