Kristtini Cain (Marion, Ind./Marion H.S.), a freshman member of the 2008-09 Ball State University women's golf team, qualified for the U.S. Women's Amateur Public Links Championship, which will be held June 22-27 at Red Tail Golf Club in Devens, Mass.
Cain qualified by shooting a 78 at a Sectional Qualifier at Hickory Stick Golf Club in Greenwood, Ind. She was one of two players to advance out of her sectional.
The U.S. Women's Amateur Public Links Championship is one of 13 national championships conducted annually by the USGA, and is for female amateurs who have USGA Handicap Indexes not exceeding 18.4 and are strictly public course players.
Cain, who was named Ball State's Freshman of the Year in 2008-09, competed in all 34 rounds in her initial campaign at Ball State and twice finished as the team's No. 1 golfer at tournaments. She tied for third at the Saluki Invitational and was third at the Ball State Cardinal Classic. Cain tallied a 79.47 average, and tallied a career low 72 at the Cardinal Classic. She managed six top-20 finishes, including five top-10 placings in 2008-09.
Under the direction of head coach Katherine Mowat, Ball State won three tournaments, set two school records and posted four additional top 10 tourney finishes in 2008-09.
