Softball's Milian Named Academic All-District

Elizabeth Milian, a junior pitcher on Ball State University's softball team, has been selected to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District V First Team, which is selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America.
She will now appear on the national ballot for selection to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America Team, which will be announced May 27.
Milian was named the Mid-American Conference Pitcher of the Year plus received the league's inaugural Nan Harvey Sportsmanship Award this season. She tallied a 21-15 overall record with a 2.22 earned-run average in 224 innings pitched. Her 21 victories rank as the fourth best single-season total in school history, while her 39 appearances ties her mark of 39 set in 2007 and ranks as the third best in Ball State annals. Milian compiled a 12-2 MAC record and struck out 85 batters, while her 204 strikeouts on the season set a Ball State single-season record. She posted four shutouts in league play and limited MAC opponents to a .214 batting average.
Milian, who was named the MAC West Division Pitcher of the Week three times this season, owns a 3.94 grade-point average on Ball State's 4.0 scale as a math education major.
Milian is the first Ball State softball player selected to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District First Team since Kris Burdine was named in 2003 and 2004.
The Cardinals won the school's first ever regular season MAC Championship in softball, and completed the yeear with a 29-24 overall record. Ball State, under the direction of third-year head coach Craig Nicholson, finished league play with an 18-3 conference mark.
