
Gymnastics Team Defeats California in Meet at Michigan State

Ball State's women's gymnastics team tallied a 191.825 team score to defeat California, but place behind Michigan State at the Spartans meet in East Lansing, Mich., Sunday. The win was the fourth of the season for a rebuilding Ball State, which managed only one victory in head coach Nadalie Walsh's first season a year ago.
Michigan State won the event with a team score of 195.050, while the Bears, coached by Ball State alum Cari Dubois, managed a 190.725.
The Cardinals best event of the meet was the balance beam where they set a season high with a 48.350 team mark. Freshman Kayla Kmiecik tallied a career best 9.725 and placed fifth in the event. Senior Teresa Phipps and freshman Katelyn Busacker each tallied 9.700 on the beam.
Ball State's freshman Amanda Davies and Brittney Emmons, along with Phipps, all tied for the Cardinals team high with a 9.675 on the vault. The mark was a career high for Davies.
Emmons managed a fourth place finish on the floor with a 9.800 mark, which tied her career high. Freshman Daneen Haba tallied a career best 9.775 on the floor, while Davies posted a career best 9.750.
On the uneven bars, Haba and junior Bibiana Rodriguez-Lockwood managed the team's top scores with 9.600 marks.
Ball State is 4-10 on the season and will travel to the UNO's Classic Friday. The UNO's Classic is hosted by Arizona State and will include Cal State Fullerton and Nebraska.
