
Softball Falls On The Road 5-1 At Notre Dame

SOUTH BEND, Ind. ? The Ball State softball team (9-13) fell 5-1 at Notre Dame Tuesday.
Alyssa Collins logged the first hit for Ball State in the second inning and stole second. She made it to third on a single up the middle from Jen Reifschneider. Katelyn Gunderson pinch ran for her and stole second to put runners on second and third; however, the Fighting Irish prevented the Cardinals from scoring by forcing the next two batters out.
In the bottom of the second, Notre Dame (12-11) walked and singled up the middle, placing runners on first and third. With one out, the Fighting Irish reached first on a throwing error and pushed in the first run. Ball State limited the scoring with two fly outs for the following batters.
After one out in the third, Lisa Rozanski connected for a single to the shortstop. Allie Pennock grounded out and Rozanski was thrown out at third to close the side.
With two outs in the bottom of the third, a runner reached first on a throwing error and another one singled. Dani Miller then knocked a three-run home run over the center field wall to give Notre Dame three more runs for a score of 4-0.
The Fighting Irish gave up no hits in the fourth and created two hits of their own, and put the game out of reach with a fifth run.
Amanda Montalto answered with a single to left field for Ball State. Kamilah Holle re-entered and ran for Montalto. She advanced on a walk and later advanced to third. She scored on a passed ball to put the Cardinals on the board in the fifth inning trailing 5-1.
After giving up just one hit in the fifth inning, a barehanded throw from Alicia Barkley to first base ended scoring efforts by Notre Dame with two runners left on base. The Cardinals came up short in the sixth inning with just one hit by Milian in left field.
Milian (7-8) finished six innings and gave up six hits with just one earned run.
Kristy Stratton made her second start of the season, her first at first base for the Cardinals. She made seven putouts in the game.
Ball State earned five hits to Notre Dame's six, but ultimately allowed four errors in the 5-1 loss.
The Cardinals (9-13) return to the BSU Softball Complex Wednesday, March 25 against IUPUI. Game time begins at 3 p.m. The game will be broadcast on WCRD 93.1 FM. Live stats will also be available at ballstatesports.com.
