Maertin Places 28th On 1-Meter @ Zone Diving

DAY 2 RECAP:
MINNEAPOLIS, Minn - - Ball State women's diving junior Lisa Maertin (New Lenox, Ill./Lincoln-Way Central H.S.) concluded competition in the 2009 NCAA Zone C Diving Meet with a 28th-place finish on the one-meter diving board Saturday afternoon at Minnesota's University Aquatic Center.
Maertin posted 212.00 points in her six dives, falling 21.1 points shy of reaching the top 18 which advanced to the finals. Overall, 38 divers competed on the one-meter board.
Maertin's best dive was her first, a forward two-and-a-half somersault pike which netted her 44.20 points. She also ended competition with dives worth 43.70 points (a back one-and-a-half somersault pike) and 43.20 points (a inward one-and-a-half somersault pike) in her final two rounds.
On Friday, Maertin placed 24th on the three-meter diving board at the 2009 NCAA Zone C Diving Meet.

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn - - Ball State women's diving junior Lisa Maertin (New Lenox, Ill./Lincoln-Way Central H.S.) opened competition in the 2009 NCAA Zone C Diving Meet, hosted by Minnesota, with a 24th-place finish on the three-meter diving board Friday afternoon at the University Aquatic Center.
Maertin posted 228.10 points in her six dives, falling 15.2 points shy of reaching the top 18 which advanced to the finals. Overall, 36 divers competed on the three-meter board.
Maertin's best dive was her second, a forward three-and-a-half somersault tuck which netted her 53.20 points. However, her next dive, a reverse two-and-a-half somersault tuck, collected just 18.20 points and left her battling to recover.
Maertin ended her competition with an inward two-and-a-half somersault tuck which earned 51.30 points, but it was not enough to earn her a spot in the top 18.
Maertin concludes her trip to the NCAA Zone C Diving Meet Saturday, when she begins competition in the one-meter diving prelims begin at 1 p.m., followed by the finals at 3:30 p.m.

MUNCIE, Ind. - - Junior Lisa Maertin (New Lenox, Ill./Lincoln-Way Central H.S.) of the Ball State women's swimming and diving team will compete in this weekend's NCAA Zone C Diving Meet hosted by the University of Minnesota.
Maertin will compete in both the one-meter diving and three-meter diving events. Diving gets underway Friday (March 13) with three-meter prelims at 1 p.m and the finals following at 3:30 p.m. Saturday's action also begins at 1 p.m. with one-meter diving prelims, followed by the finals at 3:30 p.m.
On the one-meter board, Maertin posted a season-best six dive score of 281.85 in the Cardinals victory over Akron (Nov. 11). Her best three-meter score of the season came versus Miami (Feb. 6), when she posted 301.13. Maertin's 1-meter score versus the Zips ranks second in school history, while her 3-meter score versus the RedHawks ranks third in school annals.
At the 2009 Mid-American Conference Women's Swimming & Diving Championships held Feb. 25-28, Maertin placed fifth on the one-meter board (256.85), while earning seventh on the three-meter board (211.85).
This is the second-straight season Maertin as qualified for the NCAA Zone Diving Meet. Last season, she finished 38th on the three-meter board with a score of 184.80.
Maertin was BSU's lone swimming and diving student-athlete to qualify for the NCAA Championships this season.
