March 10, 2009 | Women's Basketball
CLEVELAND, Ohio - The Mid-American Conference named Ball State senior guard Porchia Green to First Team All-MAC honors for the second straight season. Junior forward Danielle Gratton and sophomore forward Emily Maggert has also been selected to Third Team All-MAC for the first time in their careers. Green was also named MAC Defensive Player of the Year.
Ball State has now placed three players on the All-MAC honors squad a total of three times including this season. The last time prior to 2007-08 was 1982-83. Green becomes only the third player to receive First Team All-MAC accolades in back-to-back seasons. Former Cardinals Kate Endress (2004-05, 2003-04) and Tamara Bowie (2002-03, 2001-02, 2000-01) both accomplished that feat during their playing days at Ball State.
Maggert and Gratton have made quite an impact on Ball State's inside game this season. The two combine for 779 total points and 397 rebounds. Maggert has scored a season high 23 points on two occasions while Gratton netted a career-high 21 points in a win over North Dakota. Maggert has had two double-doubles for the year. She brought down a personal best 17 rebounds against Central Michigan. Gratton has had five double-double games and earned MAC Player of the Week (Feb. 2).
Green has been named for the first time in her career the MAC Defensive Player of the Year. She is only the second player all-time to receive the award the last time was in 2001-02 when Shala Crook took the honors. Green has garnered MAC Player of the Week honors three times this season. She started all 30 games and leads the team in rebounding averaging 6.8 a contest while also leading the team in steals with 54. She ranks 11th all-time in scoring in the BSU record books with 1,191 points. Green has played 1,045 minutes so far this season which is good for third all-time in a season. She is one of only two players who have reached 1,000 or more minutes in two seasons. Green is eighth all-time at Ball State in rebounds with 772. She is only the 10th player in Ball State history to reach at least 1,000 career points and at least 500 rebounds. Green is seventh all-time in assists in the Ball State record books with 402. She has recorded five double-doubles this season and scored a personal best 28 points at home against Evansville. She leads the team in scoring with 12.9 points per game.
