Women's Golf in 43-Team Event in South Carolina

Ball State's women's golf team is in 30th place out of 43 teams at the Kiawah Island Classic in Kiawah, S.C., after Monday's second round. The tournament is being played at Oak Point and Cougar Point Golf Courses in Kiawah, S.C.

The Cardinals, under the direction of head coach Katherine Mowat, are competing in their first tournament of the spring season after winning two tournaments this past fall -- their own Ball State Cardinal Classic and the Iowa Hawkeye Invitational. Ball State managed a first round 326 and a second round 321, while the Miami Hurricanes are leading the event withg a 605.

Kirsty O'Connor is Ball State's top competitor after shooting a 75-82=157 to tie for 67th after two rounds. Rachael Pruett recorded an 85-73 and is tied for 77th. Brittany Kelly managed an 82-85, Kristtini Cain scored an 87-81 and Sarah Windlan managed an 84-86 in the first two rounds.

The Kiawah Island Intercollegiate is a 43-team tournament being played on two courses. The Cougar Point Golf Course will be played to a par-72 and at 6,009 yards, while the Oak Point will be played to a par-72 at 5,907 yards.

The Cardinals will compete in the third and final round Tuesday at Oak Point Golf Course.
