
Gymnastics Tallies MAC Win over Western Michigan

Ball State's gymnastics team tallied a 190.975 to 189.800 Mid-American Conference victory over Western Michigan Sunday in Worthen Arena.
With the win, the Cardinals improved to 2-6 overall and 1-5 in the MAC, while the Broncos fell to 1-11 overall and 0-5 against league competition.
The Cardinals opened the meet on the vault and managed a 48.275, while Western Michigan tallied a 47.375 on the bars. Ball State was led on the vault by a first-place finish by fifth-year senior Teresa Phipps who tallied a 9.775. Freshman Brittney Emmons managed a 9.750 to place second, and junior Ashley Jacob scored a 9.675 to finish third. The individual victory marked the second on the vault this season by Phipps. She also won the event vs. Central Michigan Feb. 1.
Ball State moved to the bars and tallied a 48.500 team score, while WMU managed a 47.375 on the bars. After two events, Ball State led the meet 96.775 to 95.075.
The Cardinals managed a season high 48.500 on the bars behind the first-place finish of freshman Domenique DeRosa. DeRosa tallied a career high 9.775 to win the event, while junior Bibiana Rodriguez-Lockwood and freshman Daneen Haba tied for second with 9.725 scores. The individual victory marked the first career win for DeRosa.
Ball State moved to the beam and tallied a 46.050, while the Broncos managed a 47.525 on the floor. After three events, the Cardinals led 142.825 to 142.600.
On the beam, Ball State was led by the third place score of 9.500 by Phipps, while freshman Katelyn Busacker tallied a 9.400. Senior Cobie Zuk, who was competing in her third meet of the year after missing the first five with an injury, managed a season best on the beam with a 9.150.
The Cardinals completed the meet on the floor with a 48.150 team score, while Western Michigan managed a 47.200 on the beam.
Ball State was led on the floor by the 9.725 first-place score of Emmons, while Phipps placed second with a 9.700. Zuk was competing on the floor for the first time this season and managed a 9.500.
Phipps managed a 38.675 on the all-around to win the title over three Western Michigan performers.
The Cardinals will travel to Kentucky Friday for a meet with Illinois, North Carolina and William and Mary. The meet is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. in Lexington, Ky.
