
Gymnastics Tallies Season High Score at SEMO

The Ball State gymnastics team tallied a season high team score of 193.100 at Southeast Missouri State Thursday, but suffered a loss to the 25th-ranked RedHawks, which managed a 195.500 -- the third highest total in their school's history.
Ball State started the meet on the bars with a 48.375, led by a career high 9.775 from junior Ashley Jacob. Fifth-year senior Teresa Phipps and freshman Domenique DeRosa each tallied a 9.750. The 9.750 was a career best for DeRosa. Southeast (8-2, 6-0 MIC) started the evening off with its second-highest vault total this season, 48.750.
The Cardinals moved to the vault and managed a 48.275 behind the team's best performance from freshman Brittney Emmons, who tallied a 9.750. The Redhawks moved to the uneven parallel bars where they managed a season-high 48.950, the fifth best mark in their school's history.
Ball State moved to the floor exercise and managed a team score of 48.300, its second best team total of the season on that event. Emmons was the Cardinals top competitor with a 9.775, while Phipps managed a 9.750. SEMO moved to the balance beam and tallied a 48.650, just missing its season high of 48.700.
The Cardinals finished the meet on the balance beam and recorded a team total of 48.150 -- the best mark of the year for Ball State. Freshman Katelyn Busacker placed second with a career high 9.775. DeRosa tallied a career best 9.725 for the Cardinals. The Redhawks finished the meet on the floor as they turned in a 49.150.
Phipps placed third in the all-around with a 38.475 as the Cardinals fell to 1-6 overall.
Ball State will host Mid-American Conference foe Western Michigan Sunday at 2 p.m. in a meet which will feature Ball State's student-athletes via webcast on www.ballstatesports.com. This marks the Cardinals final regular season home meet of the year, however, Ball State will host the MAC Championships March 21 at 1 p.m. in Worthen Arena. Admissiton to Sunday's meet vs. Western Michigan is free admission.
