Scouting Ball State: The Cardinals improved to 15-8 overall and 7-2 in the Mid-American Conference after earning a 21-point victory (83-62) at Buffalo (5-18, 1-8 MAC) Sunday afternoon in Alumni Arena. The Cardinals shot 56.1 percent from the field while holding Buffalo to a 37.5 percent. Ball State's bench also scored 28 points to Buffalo's 18. Junior guard Audrey McDonald after hitting back-to-back three-pointers with 2:18 left in the ball game became second all-time in the Ball State record books in career three-pointers. The junior has made 206 three-pointers for her career she passed former Ball State Cardinal Kate Endress who played for BSU from 2002-05. Four Cardinals scored in double figures senior guard Porchia Green led the squad with 15 points. The inside duo of junior forward Danielle Gratton and sophomore forward Emily Maggert each had 13 and 12 respectively. Freshman Jade Barber netted 10. Ball State returns to Worthen Arena for two home games this week. The Cardinals host Kent State Wednesday and Ohio Saturday. Ball State currently has sole possession of the MAC West.
Scouting Kent State: Kent State (16-5, 5-4 MAC) put forth what may have been its best defensive effort of the year in a 67-50 win over Northern Illinois Saturday afternoon (Feb. 7) at the M.A.C Center. The Huskies (11-11, 6-3 MAC) entered Saturday in a first place tie in the MAC West Division, but were held to just 28.6 percent shooting. Anna Kowalska took 12 of the Golden Flashes' 33 free throw attempts and scored a game-high 19 points, while Jamilah Humes poured in 17 on 7-of-12 shooting from the field. KSU outrebounded the Huskies 51-36 and outscored NIU 24-11 at the line. The Golden Flashes are 1-3 in the league on the road. Kent State is 3-1 against MAC West Division opponents with its only loss coming against Central Michigan at Rose Arena.
Series History: Ball State returns home to take on Kent State. The Golden Flashes are 16-5 overall and 5-4 in the MAC. Both the Cardinals and Kent State have earned non-conference victories this season over Cleveland State and Robert Morris. KSU is 3-1 over the MAC West Division with wins over Eastern Michigan, Western Michigan, and Northern Illinois. Kent State lost to Central Michigan 109-94 for its lone MAC West Division loss. It is the 47th meeting between the two school's with Kent State leading the all-time series record 35-11. The Cardinals lost to the Golden Flashes last season, 69-54 at KSU. The last time Ball State defeated Kent State was in 2006-07 by a score of 74-69 in Worthen Arena.
