
Men?s Swimming & Diving Posts 169.5-112.5 Victory Over EIU

MUNCIE, Ind. - - Ball State men's swimming & diving head coach Bob Thomas coached the Cardinals to wins in 12 of 16 events, to lead BSU to a 169.5-112.5 victory over his alma mater Eastern Illinois Friday night at the Lewellen Aquatic Center.
Overall, the men's squad had eight different individual event winners on the day, with three student-athletes scoring a pair of wins each. With the win, the Cardinals climb to 1-1 (0-1 Mid-American Conference) on the year.
Leading the way for the men were senior Ben Karwoski (Bluffton, Ind./Bluffton H.S.) with victories in the 200 (1:47.55) and 500 (4:54.71) freestyle, as well as sophomore Chris Krupa (Indianapolis, Ind./Pike H.S.) with wins in the 100 (52.35) and 200 (1:57.49) butterfly.
Freshman Quinton Rodriguez (Rockford, Mich./Rockford H.S.) also swept the diving events, with scores of 281.55 on the three-meter board and 283.20 on the one-meter event.
The meet started with senior Ryan Misener (Elkhart, Ind./Elkhart Memorial H.S.), sophomore Gavin McNeeley (North Manchester, Ind./Manchester H.S.) Krupa and senior Austin Laska (Palos Park, Ill./A.A. Stagg H.S.) posting a time of 1:37.02 to win the 200 medley relay.
Junior Mark Golden (Itasca, Ill./Lake Park H.S.) followed with a time of 10:10.17 to win the 1000 freestyle, as the Cardinals took control of the event.
Also scoring individual event wins for Ball State were Misener in the 100 back (54.17), Laska in the 50 freestyle (21.48), sophomore Andrew Hostetler (Vincennes, Ind./Jasper H.S.) in the 200 IM (2:01.85) and freshman Devon Hill (Muncie, Ind./Central H.S.) in the 100 freestyle (47.86).
The Ball State men's swimming & diving team returns to action Saturday, with it travels to IUPUI for a 1 p.m. quad meet which also including St. Louis and Western Illinois.
