Three Football Players Receive League Honors
December 02, 2009 | Football
Three members of Ball State's 2009 football team -- Brandon Crawford, Robert Eddins and MiQuale Lewis -- were each named to the All-Mid-American Conference Second Team as selected by the league's 13 head coaches.
Crawford, a senior defensive end, was named to the second team for a second straight season after earning third-team honors as a sophomore. He started all 12 games for the Cardinals this season and started the final 39 games of his career. A 33-year-old Marine, Crawford was second on the team with 11.5 tackles for loss and three sacks. He totalled 35 tackles on the season and ranks seventh in the MAC in tackles for loss.
Eddins, a junior defensive end, ranked sixth for Ball State with 55 total tackles, and led the Cardinals with 13.5 tackles for loss and seven sacks. He was credited with three forced fumbles, two blocked kicks and one fumble recovery in 2009. Eddins is tied for 23rd in the nation in tackles for loss, and managed a career high 10 tackles vs. North Texas.
Lewis, a senior H-Back, gained a career high 301 rushing yards at Eastern Michigan this season. His teammate, Cory Sykes, gained 203 yards in the same game and the duo became the first in NCAA football history (all divisions) to have a 300-yard rusher and a 200-yard rusher in the same game. Lewis ranks third in Ball State history with 3,334 career rushing yards. He started all 12 games and rushed for 871 yards and five touchdowns this season. Lewis has applied to the NCAA for a fifth year of eligibility, but Ball State has not heard on that ruling.
Lewis was named to the 2009 All-MAC Second Team after earning first-team honors a year ago. Crawford was selected to the second team for a second straight season after being named to the third team as a sophomore. Eddins received All-MAC honors for the first time in his career.
The Cardinals will open the 2010 season at Scheumann Stadium with a Thursday night home game vs. Southeast Missouri State Sept. 2.
