Women's Hoops Falls At Home To Wisconsin-Green Bay
December 11, 2009 | Women's Basketball
Junior forward Emily Maggert earned her seventh double-double of her career and fifth of the season after leading the Cardinals with 17 points and 14 rebounds. Junior guard Ty'Ronda Benning chipped in a career best 14 points, while freshman guard Shanee' Jackson scored a personal best nine points on the night.
The Cardinals outrebounded the Phoenix 36 to 20, but the Phoenix made 56 percent of their shots, including 63 percent from the three point arc.
Maggert came out in the second half scoring back-to-back baskets to tie the game 35-35 with just 50 seconds shaved off the clock. Green Bay would then go on a 6-0 run to take a 41-35 advantage with 16:41 left in the second period.
Scoring woes plagued Ball State in the second half as Maggert was the lone Cardinal to score until the 10:06 mark.
Green Bay eventually built a 10 point cushion 51-41 with just over 10 minutes to play which was too much for the Cardinals to overcome.
Ball State fell behind early 10-5 to Wisconsin-Green Bay in the opening minutes of the first half. Freshman forward Jade Barber in her season debut scored a layup which sparked a 6-0 run for the Cardinals to give them their first lead of the game 11-10 at around the 14 minute mark.
Green Bay would maintain the lead until Maggert tied the game 18-18 for the first time in the contest off of a layup with 6:52 on the clock.
Benning's basket at the 6:34 mark gave Ball State a 21-18 edge over the Phoenix.
After that, both teams would trade baskets which included five ties and eight lead changes. Green Bay would come out on top at the half up 33-30 over the Cardinals.
Ball State remains home Sunday when it hosts Illinois State at Worthen Arena with a 1 p.m. tipoff.
