December 10, 2009 | Women's Swimming and Diving
MUNCIE, Ind. - - The Ball State women's swimming and diving team will host Michigan State Saturday for a 2 p.m. dual meet at the Lewellen Acquatic Center.
With victories versus Eastern Illinois, IUPUI, Saint Louis and Western Illinois last weekend, the Cardinals are now 5-3 (1-3 Mid-American Conference) heading into Saturday's showdown. The Spartans, meanwhile, haven't competed as a team since Nov. 22 and are 2-1 on the season. MSU sent six team members to compete in selected events at the Calvin College Invitational last weekend.
BSU currently holds seven individual top-ten marks in the MAC, led by two apiece from senior Lisa Maertin (New Lenox, Ill./Lincoln Way-Central H.S.), junior Maria Gramelspacher (Jasper, Ind./Jasper H.S.) and sophomore Christina Riordan (Homewood, Ill./Homewood Flossmoor H.S.).
Maertin and Riordan have both done their damage on the diving boards. Maertin ranks ninth in both the one (280.65) and three (277.57) meter dives while Riordan claims the tenth best marks in the one (271.9) and three (268.10) meter dives. Both of their marks in the one meter dive are NCAA Zone Diving Qualifying Marks.
Gramelspacher ranks ninth in both the 100 (57.42) and 200 (2:07.19) butterfly. Sophomore Sara Hostetler (Vincennes, Ind./Jasper H.S.) places right behind Gramelspacher in the 100 butterfly slotted in 10th (57.46).
BSU's 200 (1:38.30) and 400 (3:34.78) freestyle relay teams rank tenth in each category.
