WS&D Set For Pair Of Meets This Week

MUNCIE, Ind. - - The Ball State women's swimming and diving team will open a busy weekend Friday, when it hosts Eastern Illinois at 6 p.m. inside the Lewellen Aquatic Center. The meet will be webcasted live and free of charge by Ball State Sports Link on ballstatesports.com.
Following Friday's showdown versus the Panthers, the Cardinals will travel to Indianapolis, Ind., Saturday for a quad-meet versus IUPUI, Saint Louis and Western Illinois. The meet, which is scheduled for a 1 p.m. start, marks the second time the Cardinals will compete at the IU Natatorium this season.
Despite starting the season 1-3 in head-to-head meets, BSU is coming off two first-place finishes in the IUPUI House of Champions (Nov. 13-14) and the Doug Coers Invitational (Nov. 20-21).
Eastern Illinois stands at 1-2 head-to-head with its first victory coming in its latest meet at Saint Louis, while IUPUI sits at 2-3, Saint Louis is 6-3 and Western Illinois is 0-3. Western Illinois and IUPUI are familiar opponents as both competed in the IUPUI House of Champions finishing fourth and fifth, respectively.
Entering Friday's meet, the Cardinals boast 15 individual top-ten times in the Mid-American Conference with seven coming in the past two outings.
Leading the Cardinals in top-ten individual marks is sophomore Sara Hostetler (Vincennes, Ind./Jasper H.S.) with three. Hostetler ranks fifth in the 100 butterfly (57.46), sixth in the 200 backstroke (2:07.48) and 10th in the 200 butterfly (2:07.99) while also contributing to BSU's ninth-place mark in the 400 medley relay (3:56.96).
Senior Mary Ehresman (Lafayette, Ind./Jefferson H.S.) totes a pair of top-ten times slotted at ninth in the 1650 freestyle (17:47.75) and the 200 butterfly (2:07.66), while fellow senior Lisa Maertin owns two top-ten marks on the diving board ranking third in both the one-meter dive (280.65/NCAA Zone Diving qualifying mark) and three-meter dive (277.57).
Also notching a pair of top-ten marks are junior Maria Gramelspacher (Jasper, Ind./Jasper H.S.) and sophomores Whitney Adams (Danville, Ind./Danville H.S.) and Christina Riordan (Homewood, Ill./Homewood Flossmoor H.S.).
Gramelspacher ranks seventh in both the 100 (57.56) and the 200 butterfly (2:07.19). Riordan is fourth in the one-meter diving board (271.90/NCAA Zone Diving qualifying mark) and fifth in the three-meter event (268.10). Adams is tenth on both the one-meter (237.07) and three-meter boards (237.60).
Juniors Katie Bylsma (Westfield, Ind./Pinckney H.S.) and Jessica Elzinga (Holland, Mich./West Ottawa H.S.) rank third in the 50 freestyle (23.78) and ninth in the one-meter dive (244.55), respectively.
