
Women's Swimming Falls At Akron, 186-109

AKRON, Ohio - - The Ball State women's swimming and diving team suffered a setback on the road, falling to Mid-American Conference foe Akron (1-2, 1-2 MAC), 186-109, Friday evening.
BSU (1-2, 1-2 MAC) registered three event wins with the first coming courtesy of sophomore Sara Hostetler (Vincennes, Ind./Jasper H.S.), who clocked a time of 57.46 to win the 100-yard butterfly and remain undefeated in the event in 2009.
Senior Emily Karwoski (Zionsville, Ind./North Central H.S.) notched the Cardinals' second win of the day as she was victorious in the 200-yard IM (2:15.03). Karwoski also placed second in the 100 (1:07.76) and 200-yard (2:26.59) breaststrokes to lead BSU with 17 points.
In the 400-yard freestyle relay, the combination of senior Kelly Johnson (Fort Wayne, Ind./Homestead H.S.), junior Maria Gramelspacher (Jasper, Ind./Jasper H.S.), sophomore Elizabeth Spilman (Bristol, Ind./Northridge H.S.) and freshman Jennifer Miles (Fishers, Ind./North Central H.S.) were victorious, recording a time of 3:41.21.
Gramelspacher also claimed second-place in the 100-yard butterfly (57.56).
Senior Mary Ehresman (Lafayette, Ind./Jefferson H.S.) earned two second-place finishes for BSU in the 200-yard butterfly (2:07.66) and the 1,000-yard freestyle (10:35.67) to score eight points.
BSU continues its weekend road trip Saturday to test the waters at Buffalo for a 1 p.m. start time.
