Scouting Ball State: Senior guard Audrey McDonald became the 20th member of the Ball State University women's basketball 1,000-point club in the Cardinals 74-69 victory over Northern Arizona Saturday in Worthen Arena. Ball State improved to 1-2 overall, while the Lumberjacks fell to 0-4. For the third straight game, junior forward Emily Maggert led the Cardinals in scoring. She tallied her fifth double-double of her career with 21 points and 14 rebounds. Ball State was also led by sophomore guard Patrice King's 15 points. Ball State managed to outrebound Northern Arizona 46-to-28 in the contest to seal the victory. The Cardinals are coached by Kelly Packard who is in her second season. Packard owns a 27-11 overall record.
Scouting Valparaiso: The Crusaders come to Worthen Arena for the first time since the 2005-06 season. Valparaiso is undefeated with a 3-0 record with wins over Indiana Tech (86-57), SIU Edwardsville (64-55) and Colorado State (68-58). Double-doubles by Lauren Kenney (Mooresville, Ind./Mooresville H.S.) and Ashley Varner (South Bend, Ind./Washington H.S.) helped Valparaiso overcome a nine-point second half deficit and defeat Colorado State 68-58 at the Athletics-Recreation Center on Saturday afternoon. Valpo has three players averiging double digits with Betsy Adams leading the way averaging 18.3 points per game, Lauren Kenney averages 17.3 ppg and Ashley Varner is averaging 11.3 ppg. The game against the Cardinals is the first road game for Valpo this season. The Crusaders are coached by Keith Freeman who is the school's all-time winningest coach. He is in his 13th season at Valparaiso and owns a 263-181 overall record.
