
Men?s Swimming & Diving Places Second At House of Champions

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - - The Ball State men's swimming and diving team posted 682 total points to place second at the two-day 2009 House of Champions Invitational hosted by IUPUI.
Ashland won the six-team meet with 764.5 points, followed by BSU, Xavier (669.5), Western Illinois (348), IUPUI (344.5) and Indianapolis (306.5).
Overall, the Cardinals posted nine top three finishers, including wins in three individual events, in the 20 men's events.
Leading the way for the Cardinals was junior diver Jeremy Whited (Richmond, Ind./Richmond H.S.) who placed first on both the 1-meter (227.10) and 3-meter (254.40) events.
Freshman diver Quinton Rodriguez (Rockford, Mich./Rockford H.S.) also secured a top tree effort, placing third on the 3-meter board with a score of 245.85.
BSU's other individual top three efforts came in the 50 freestyle, when senior Austin Laska (Palos Park, Ill./A.A. Stagg H.S.) won the event with a time of 21.26, while senior Ben Battjes (Elkhart, Ind./Elkhart Memorial H.S.) came in third with a clocking of 21.54.
The Ball State men's swimming & diving team returns to action Nov. 20-21 when it hosts the 2009 Doug Coers Invitational which will also feature Findlay and Grand Valley State.
