Women's Swimming & Diving Heads To IUPUI This Weekend

MUNCIE, Ind. - - The Ball State women's swimming and diving team will travel to the state's capital Friday and Saturday to compete in the IUPUI House of Champions at the historic IU Natatorium in Indianapolis, Ind.
Friday's action is set to begin at 6:30 p.m. with the 200 freestyle relay, while Saturday's scheduled gets underway at 10:00 a.m. with the 200 medley relay.
At last season's House of Champions meet, the Cardinals finished the two-day event with 8044 points, topping second-place finisher Wisconsin-Green Bay (7810) by over 200 points. Overall, the Cardinals score nine event wins at last year's meet.
Entering the meet, the Cardinals own 12 top 10 individual marks in the Mid-American Conference rankings.
Senior Lisa Maertin (New Lenox, Ill./Lincoln Way-Central H.S.) enters the week ranked second in the conference on the three-meter board (277.57) and fourth in the one-meter (259.12) event, with both marks coming in winning efforts at Bowling Green (Oct. 31).
Finishing second to Maertin in three-meter diving was teammate and sophomore Christina Riordan (Homewood, Ill./Homewood Flossmoor H.S.), who is slotted at fourth (266.92) in the MAC. Riordan also ranks eighth in the league on the one-meter board with a score of 245.99 at Buffalo.
Fellow sophomore diver Whitney Adams (Danville, Ind./Danville H.S.) also ranks ninth in the league on the one-meter board (237.07) and 10th in the three-meter (237.60) event, with both scores coming at Buffalo.
Sophomore Sara Hostetler (Vincennes, Ind./Jasper H.S.) owns the fifth-best time in the league in the 100 butterfly (57.46), while ranking sixth in the 200 backstroke (2:07.48). The sophomore earned both marks from victories at Bowling Green (200 backstroke) and Akron (100 butterfly). Hostetler also ranks ninth in the league in the 200 butterfly with a time of 2:07.99 versus Toledo.
Junior Maria Gramelspacher (Jasper, Ind./Jasper H.S.) joins Hostetler in the 100 butterfly rankings, posting the seventh-best time in the league with a time of 57.56 at Akron.
Senior Mary Ehresman (Lafayette, Ind./Jefferson H.S.) joins Hostetler in the 200 butterfly rankings with the seventh-best time in the league at 2:07.66 posted at Akron.
Senior Emily Karwoski (Zionsville, Ind./North Central H.S.) enters the week ranked 10th in the 200 breaststroke after posting a time of 2:26.22 versus Toledo.
The 400-yard freestyle squad of juniors Katie Bylsma (Westfield, Ind./Pinckney H.S.) and Joan Cullen (Des Plaines, Ill./Maine West H.S.), sophomore Nicole Saulters (Highland, Ind./Highland H.S.) and freshman Jillian Bischoff (Atlanta, Ind./Hamilton Heights H.S.) claims the fifth-fastest time (3:34.78) in the MAC after a win at Toledo.
The BSU men's swimming and diving squad will also compete in the IUPUI House of Champions.
