Ball State's men's golf team is in first place at the 17-team Bearcat Invitational at The Traditions Golf Course in Hebron, Ky.
The Cardinals managed a 296-293=589 to hold a two stroke lead over Bowling Green and a three stroke advantage over Miami University.
Eric Steger is Ball State's top competitor with a 72-73=145, which ties him for third place. Ross Cosat is tied for eighth after firing a 74-73=147. Joe Gasser is tied for 19th after carding a 77-72=149. Brodie Williams and Eric Skillman are tied for 25th after each tallied scores of 75-75=150. TJ Carpenter is competing in the tournament as an individual and is tied for 65th with a 78-79=157.
The final 18 holes are scheduled for a Tuesday 9 a.m. shotgun start.
Joining the Cardinals at the event are Austin Peay, Bellarmine, Bowling Green, Cleveland State, Eastern Kentucky, Marshall, Miami University, Morehead State, Northern Kentucky, Oakland, Ohio, Western Kentucky, Wright State and Youngstown State.
