Day 3: The Ball State football team spent day three in Mobile, Ala., participating in bowl activities and having the last practice for the program's 19 seniors. The Cardinals seniors and select juniors toured the Mobile Armory Hospital where they visited with children and the adult rehabilitation center. In addition, junior co-captain Brandon Crawford visited the Mobile Juvenile Detention Center and gave a talk on making the proper decisions in life. After the visits, the team was invited to a luncheon aboard the USS Alabama where they toured the battleship and various planes from the country's wars. After a full day of bowl activities, the Cardinals conducted a two hour practice at the USM-Wright Prep School. It marked the final official practice for the seniors, however, the team will conduct a walk thru Monday in final preparation for the game.
Day 2: The Ball State football team's second day in Mobile, Ala., consisted of a Fellowship of Christian Athletes breakfast with keynote speaker Tommy Bowden, the former head coach of Clemson University's football team. After the FCA Breakfast, the Cardinals received and were fitted for their bowl watches. After a team lunch at the hotel, the team had day 2 of practice at USM-Wright Prep School in Mobile. The days practice in shorts and shoulder pads was conducted in a steady rain, and was cut short by about 15 minutes due to a lightning storm. The players had Saturday evening off and were on their own to visit with family and friends.
The football team is using the practice facilities of USM-Wright, which won the 2008 Alabama High School Class 4A State Championship. It was the fifth state championship for the school and the fourth since 1996.
