January 28, 2009 | Women's Swimming and Diving
MUNCIE, Ind. - - For the second time this season, Ball State women's swimming & diving freshman breaststroke specialist Emily Haifley (Roanoke, Ind./Homestead H.S.) has been named the Mid-American Conference Female Swimmer of the Week.
Haifley, who also picked up the award on Dec. 17, earns the honor after posting a school-record time of 2:19.49 in the 200 Breaststroke in last Saturday's home finale versus Eastern Michigan. Haifley topped the previous school record of 2:21.31 set by Rachel Beltrame (1995-96) Feb. 17, 1996.
Haifley also swam a season-best time of 1:05.13 in the 100 Breaststroke, which is the third-fastest individual time in school history, surpassing the clocking of 1:05.41 set by Karla Bailey (2002-05) Feb. 22, 2002. Haifley's times were fast enough to win both events versus EMU.
Haifley also helped lead the 200 Medley Relay squad to a second-place time of 1:49.19 versus Eastern Michigan.
Entering Saturday's meet versus Ohio, Haifley ranks third in the MAC in the 200 Breaststroke and fourth in the league in the 100 Breaststroke.
