
Gymnastics Team Suffers Loss to MAC Champion Kent State

Ball State's gymnastics team fell to 1-2 overall and 0-2 in the Mid-American Conference after suffering a 194.575 to 190.700 loss at MAC defending champion Kent State.
Fifth-year senior Teresa Phipps led the Cardinals in the competition. She tied for first on the bars with a score of 9.80, placed second on the balance beam with a 9.85, tied for third on the vault with a score of 9.825, tied for fourth on the floor with a 9.750 and was second in the all-around with a 39.225. Her tie for first on the bars marked the third straight meet Phipps has won or tied for first in an event.
Freshman Brittney Emmons tied Phipps for third on the vault with a 9.825.
Ball State's team score of 48.400 on the bars was the best on the season for the Cardinals. In addition to Phipps 9.80, junior Bibiana Rodriguez tallied a 9.725 and junior Ashley Jacob managed a 9.65. Rodriguez also tallied a personal career high on the vault with a 9.700. Jacob tied her career high on the vault with a 9.675 mark.
The Cardinals will host Central Michigan Sun., Feb. 1, at 2 p.m. in Worthen Arena as they continue the 2009 season. Ball State will hold all of its home meets in Worthen Arena this season, including the MAC Championships Saturday, March. 21.
