
Gymnastics Team Suffers Narrow Defeat

Ball State suffered a 192.925 to 191.525 loss to Central Michigan Sunday in the Cardinals own Worthen Arena. Ball State falls to 1-3 overall and 0-3 in the Mid-American Conference with the loss.
Ball State opened the meet on the vault and tallied a team score of 48.400. Fifth-year senior Teresa Phipps managed a season-high 9.850 to lead the Cardinals and place first on the vault. Freshman Brittney Emmons was Ball State's second best performer on the vault with a 9.725, while junior Ashley Jacob managed a season high 9.70 on the vault.
The Cardinals moved to the bars on the second rotation, and were led by freshman Daneen Haba and Phipps with scores of 9.725. The mark was a career high on the bars for Haba, besting her previous high of 9.625 at Kent State last week. Sophomore Paige Oswalt tallied her season best on the bars with a 9.600.
After two rotations, Ball State's 96.700 was narrowly behind the 97.200 of the Chippewas. Ball State moved to the beam, while Central Michigan competed on the floor in the third rotation.
Central Michigan took a commanding lead after the third rotation. Ball State manaed a 46.475 team score on the beam, while CMU tallied a 48.750 on the floor. Freshman Domenique DeRosa was Ball State's top finisher on the balance beam with a 9.600, while junior Megan Howard tallied career high 9.425 in the event.
The final rotation for the Cardinals was the floor, where Phipps tied for second with a season high 9.775. Haba recorded another career high in the event with a 9.725, while Brittney Bauer managed a season high 9.700.
Ball State will host Northern Illinois Sunday at 2 p.m. in Worthen Arena in its next meet of the season.
